FAST Celebrates 40 Year Anniversary!
In 1986, a small group of Florida Highway Patrol troopers began discussing forming an organization that could better represent rank-and-file sworn officers of the Florida Highway Patrol and their families, rather than traditional union membership. And from those meetings and discussions FAST was born!
With a commitment to the betterment and protection of fellow Florida Highway Patrol troopers, and a board of directors made up entirely of current and former sworn officers, FAST has successfully represented thousands of FHP troopers, stood side-by-side with troopers and their families during tragedy, natural disasters, the births and joys of children, and the deaths of fellow members and their spouses.
Congratulations to our board of directors and their families and thank you to our membership for your trust and confidence! Here’s to another 40 years of service!
The 2026 Legislative Session kicked off in January and represents a fitting “swan song” for Governor Ron DeSantis and his uber successful eight-year run as Florida’s governor.
As his final curtain call looms, the Governor is looking to go out in a flourish. His call for the elimination of property taxes would cement his legacy as perhaps the state’s most fiscally conservative governor in history.
In the Governor’s $117 billion budget proposal, he calls for another 5% pay increase for troopers and other state law enforcement officers, and an extension of the successful law enforcement recruitment bonus program, which pays out $5,000 for new recruits.
For the Patrol, the Governor is asking for $10.6 million for trooper overtime, and an additional $16.3 million for new patrol vehicles.
He has also tasked the Legislature with property tax reform (Constitutional Amendment), and a special session for congressional redistricting.
